Fine Arts Overview

Welcome to the Black River Fine Arts Department!  We are proud to offer a variety of courses in both the visual and musical arts for our students.

The Black River music department is dedicated to developing a life-long love of music. Students are challenged to become proficient performers by rehearsing with their instruments daily and performing often. All performing ensembles at Black River work very hard to learn both as individual musicians and as members of a group. Students can look forward to public performances in both the concert setting as well as a festival setting where ratings will be given based on quality of performance. The music program stresses a college preparatory atmosphere by teaching basic music theory and history. Students do more than play their instruments and sing at Black River - they work to gain knowledge that will enable them to appreciate great music throughout their lives.

The BRTC is an ongoing affair that looks to create a lifelong appreciation for the theatre. Inspiration is provided by Black River teachers through direction and mentorship. Students learn firsthand the art of performing in front of audiences. Lighting, set design and construction, sound, makeup and costume also provide opportunities for students to learn the craft of belonging to a theatre company. Many BRTC students continue their involvement with the theatre after graduation taking their skills to college and beyond.
