Join us for a be nice. Family Event on Tuesday, December 3, 2019

To all Black River Families,

The be nice. group would like to invite you to our be nice. family night here at Black River.  The be nice. group is made up of high school students dedicated to educating people on mental health issues as well as reducing the stigma surrounding them.

Please join us on December 3 from 6 - 7pm in the Lyceum building.  We will watch a short film about some of the mental health issues that affect our kids and then have a discussion with the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan.

All students are invited and we look forward to middle and high school students participating in the event with their parents.  Elementary students will have a different activity since some of the very important issues being discussed are difficult ones.

Thank you for taking time to address the important topic of mental health and our students!

If you have any questions, please contact our be nice. staff liaisons, Tricia Schrotenboer at schrotenboert@brpsk12.org or Jill Miskelley at miskelleyj@brpsk12.org.

Fun Walk Participants Raise $2608 for 20 Liters Organization

Black River families raised $2,608 for clean water during the Fun Walk event. That is enough to make dirty water clean for 400 people for the next 10 years through a SAM2 Community Filter that will be installed in a school in rural Rwanda.

For these kids, access to clean water means more than just improved health - it means more time spent in school, better grades, and a better chance at a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities. Please see the 20 Liters website for more information. Thank you!

Drivers on Campus - Safety Reminder

Daylight Savings Time will be ending soon, and it continues to be dark in the morning for kids walking to school or even crossing the streets from many points around campus. Parent/Guardians and student drivers, please allow extra time when driving to school. We ask that you drive slowly, double-check sidewalks and crosswalks before turning, and generally be extra-mindful of students in our community who are walking to school. As always, do not allow your students to run in-between cars to get to the sidewalk at anytime. We encourage all parents to use the entrance off 20th and drop off at the Lyceum for the added safety it provides.

Here are a few helpful reminders:
