Fifth Grade BRTC Theatre Audition Opportunity

The Black River Theatre Company will hold auditions for our spring show, Seussical Jr. on Thursday, January 30th from 3:15-4:00pm in the Small Ensemble Room in the Lyceum. This is a brand new opportunity for 5th graders, as our shows are usually only open to 6th-12th grade students. Seussical is a musical and is a collection of several Dr. Seuss stories.  No audition preparation is necessary; you will be taught all of the audition material when you come. The audition will involve group singing and acting/movement. You will also be able to try some solo singing as well as reading from the script.  If you are not able to attend on the 30th, we can see you on the 31st right after school, or we may be able to schedule another time. Please contact BRTC Director, Rachel Andrews if you have any questions.

To sign-up to audition, follow this link.

Green Team Composting Program Needs Volunteers

Green Team decided is reminding students how to compost, and in addition, they have a new procedure with composting that they'll be teaching in school. Here are the links below to sign up to help with the program:

MS/HS- SignUp Genius:

Elementary- SignUp Genius:

Below are some impressive statistics that Ken Freestone, Residential Energy Advisor of the City of Holland, gave us about how beneficial Black River’s composting has been:

We’ve learned that over the past approximately 4 months, we have diverted 113.4 yards of material from the landfill. Secondly, of the 8 organizations that participated in the composting pilot program (entirely churches and nonprofits, we were the only school) we by far produced the most compost. By all the groups together, 5.82 tons of CO2 were reduced from the atmosphere and due to the size our contribution a large percentage of that number was due to our compost. WOW!
