Testing Schedule Update

Due to transitioning to remote learning this week, PSAT, SAT & ACT WorkKeys testing has been postponed.  Testing has been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 27 and Wednesday, April 28 (for WorkKeys). On April 27, 6th, 7th, & 12th grade students will have a remote work day (no live meets). On April 28, 9th, 10th & 12th grade students will have a remote work day (no live meets).

Per the Michigan Department of Education, Virtual students are not required to participate in testing but may participate if they choose to.

Room assignments and testing details remain the same and students should refer to the letter they received before break with the information.

Thank you for your patience as these unexpected changes occur.

Student Vaccine Notification
April 9th, 2021

Ottawa County Vaccine Notification

The Ottawa County Department of Public Health (OCDPH) and participating health partners have limited appointments available for individuals aged 16 or 17 years to receive a first-dose COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine at ONE of the locations and dates below. Parental consent is needed and date of birth proof is required (driver’s license, state ID or birth certificate). If an appointment is scheduled for someone younger than 16 years, the appointment will be canceled.

Community Service Update

While we want to encourage students to continue to do positive things for our community, the traditional community service hourly requirement will not hold a student back from graduating this Spring or from moving up in grade levels for next year. This applies to our current 3rd, 5th, 8th and 12th graders.

Community service hours that students' have already completed for the 2020-2021 school year, as well as new hours acquired, can be submitted electronically by a parent and/or guardian through the Black River website > Quick Links > Forms > the Community Service Electronic Submission Form - Use During COVID-19 Remote Learning. We look forward to when more traditional opportunities are available again!  Please enjoy a safe and restful Spring Break.

Prom Date Announced!

We are excited to announce that we have a date for Prom.

Black River's Prom will take place on Saturday, May 8!

Stay tuned for more details.

Graduation Date Announced

Black River is excited to announce that the Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 25th.

The plan is to have an in-person graduation event on site at Black River. The details are being worked out and will be available as soon as possible. There is a very good chance this will be an outdoor event, so we are looking to have an alternate rain date of May 26th.

We will follow all Health Department guidelines. There is a chance that there may need to be limited family attendance, with families or households able to sit together, but in groups. Groups, then, will still need to socially distance. For example, one family seated close together, and then some space, and then another family seated close to each other, etc.

More details will be announced as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are proud of all our students and look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021.

A Message from Shannon Brunink, Head of School - March 24, 2021

Dear BR Families,

With my announcement about COVID-19 cases and quarantines last week, some questions have come up about why we do not share more specific information with our community about the cases and quarantines.  This is a valid question to ask and I thought that I would send this quick note regarding why we communicate the way that we do.  Our practices at BR are certainly not meant to lack transparency, but they are indeed meant to support privacy for those affected.

Spring Assessments Bring Schedule Changes

Middle and High School Upcoming Assessments and Schedule Changes

Attention all MS/HS families!

Spring 2021 assessments are right around the corner. All families, please read this information carefully, even if your student is not actually testing. Some of the testing affects the schedules for other grades that are not testing as well.

Masks at BRPS Athletic Events

Black River is committed to adhering to the governor's Executive Order requiring our student athletes to wear masks for all sports activities listed in the Order.  Our students know that this is for safety and we all must do our part to end this pandemic.

Spectators at all BR athletic events are also required to properly wear a mask in order to be admitted to our events.  These masks must  be worn during the entire event.  Please know that spectators not properly wearing masks will cause a stoppage in our students' play and those refusing to wear their masks will be required to leave. Click here for the MHSAA guideline.

Thank you for understanding how important this is to all of us - especially our student athletes.
