World Championship Team 74 will take their robot into battle at the FIRST Robotics West Michigan District Competition Friday, 3/22 & Saturday 3/23. The students from Black River and Holland are hoping to earn enough points to earn a spot at the State Championships in April. They will be driving the robot in a "sandstorm", directed only by the camera on the bot at the beginning of the match. Then they will have 2 minutes to place as many hatch panels and cargo (balls) into play as they can. At the end the robots will try to park on one of several levels platform, the higher the platform the more points they earn.

Black River Students at Michigan Youth In Government

YIG Group Photo

Forty-seven Black River Public high school students participated in the YMCA Michigan Youth in Government (YIG) conference in Lansing on Thursday, February 28 through Sunday, March 3, 2019.  Students take on the roles of government, including being in the legislature and governor. Committee meetings are held. Bills are discussed in committees which are failed or passed on to the House or Senate. When they are passed in both houses they are then given to the Youth Governor, who signs or vetoes them.  Delegates have the opportunity to be in the Michigan State Capitol building and to conduct business in the House or Senate chambers.
