Hi there! My name is Haley Kalis, and I am so excited to be teaching 7th grade life science in my first year here at BR! I grew up in Grand Haven where I was actively involved in cross country, soccer, choir, musical theater, and Science Olympiad, and I’ve wanted to be a teacher my whole life. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2020 with my B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology plus certifications in Secondary Integrated Science and Biology Education. I’m passionate about science education both inside and outside the classroom, and have previously worked at a nature center, natural history museum, and aboard an educational sailing vessel teaching students about our Great Lakes. I have also studied science through research in labs and in the field in northern Michigan and the mountains of Wyoming. In my free time, you can find me outdoors anywhere (backpacking, camping, hiking, sailing, reading, running, travelling...you name it!) or spending time with my family, friends, and many pets.
