My name is Jamie Fredenburg. I've taught at Black River in the 1-3rd grade Montessori for 7 years now. I also taught lower elementary at a Montessori school in Ann Arbor, MI, as well as grade 7 Life Science in Johannesburg, South Africa. I completed my undergraduate studies in Elementary Education at Michigan State University, where I earned a double minor as well, in Biology and English. I earned my Masters of Montessori Education from Xavier University. Being a Montessori teacher allows me to get to know and encourage growth in the whole child. I am passionate on the subject, and feel fortunate to have such great, similarly-minded colleagues! This is my 14th year in the classroom, and I can't wait to try new things with my students.
At home, My husband Jim (also a teacher) and I have two children, Celia (6) and Juniper (4). We also have a dog named Winnie, two bunnies called Rosie and Hazelnut, and 6 hens (Sprinkle, Happy Birthday, Rey, Luna, Pickles, and Kevin). I love spending time with my family and friends (and all those pets). We like to travel, go on hikes, play at the beach, cook and bake, and read books together. When I need to recharge my batteries, I spend time in my gardens (flowers and veggies), knit, read, run, and do yoga. I hope you've enjoyed getting to know a little about me. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to get to know you a little, as well.
