Math Team Needs You!

The Middle School math team is looking for new students to join our club.  We meet after school on Mondays from 3:15 - 4:30 (snacks are provided.)  Students do NOT need to be gifted math students.  They just have to want to do some extra math on Monday afternoons.

We work on a lot of problems that are different from the normal math curriculum and we learn some tricks to do things fast.  You don’t have to show work, you can rely on your intuition.  Most of all, we have fun doing math together.

Students don’t have to do any extra work outside of practice, but extra problems will be made available for those that are eager.

We will participate in the American Math Competition for Middle School students on Jan 18 (It is a paper and pencil test that students will take at Black River during G block).  We will also go to GVSU in February for our local MathCOUNTS competition. (We typically have to leave about 7 am on a Friday and the students are back to school for the last period.)   We also hope to do a Saturday field trip to a fun math event at Delta Community College in Saginaw.  There are a few other opportunities all of which can be administered during normal practice times.

If you have any questions please contact parent coach and Hope math professor Dyana Harrelson (harrelson@hope.edu) or our school liaison Abby Snay (snaya@brpsk12.org).
