We are excited to officially open the Outdoor Learning Playscape at Black River! This environment will provide unique and innovative learning experiences for all our students. We'd like to thank our many sponsors and donors for helping bring this project to fruition! With a water feature, a sand feature, and multiple outdoor classroom areas, teachers at all grade levels will have the opportunity to bring academic learning outside. Using a natural environment to teach Kindergarten botany lessons and elementary science lessons brings relevance and hands-on experience to our student's learning. Middle and High school students will also be able to bring lessons outside, increasing engagement and readiness to learn. This space will set our students up for success and provide long-term learning benefits for the entire community.

Project Term is a unique experience for Black River students. From 1st grade through 12th grade, students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of classes for the last few weeks of the school year. Offerings include courses to advance academically, try a new sport or activity, explore topics outside of the typical curriculum, and even travel to exciting places.
In 2024, some High School students are traveling to the Stratford Festival in Ontario to see professional theatre productions while others are exploring the the world of open flame cooking, and still others are learning to sail. Eligible students may even take Drivers Training during Project Term.
Middle school students can learn archery, wake boarding, or boxing, while others are exploring the world of cake decorating and baking. And some have chosen to take an intensive 9th grade math course to advance forward to 10th grade math.
Elementary students have the option to go horseback riding, hone their photography skills, learn to play the ukulele, or publish a newspaper.
Experiential learning is a key component to preparing students for success in college and life.
