POS LUNCH SYSTEM - AND BREAKFAST TOO
As of fall 2007 we have added a school breakfast program and implemented
a new, simplified payment system using point of sale (POS) technology for
both breakfast and lunch service. School lunch service will begin on the
first day of school. School breakfast starts in September after Labor Day
at 7:30 am each school day.
A lunch account has been established for each student through Infinite
Campus, our student information system. For paying students,
deposits are made into individual student accounts adn students
draw from those accounts when they pay for a school meal or milk
purchase. For students qualifying for free lunch (which includes
free breakfast), they pass through the serving line and use their
PIN to "pay" just like everyone else, but the funding comes from
the federal school meals account.
What are the benefits of a point of sale system?
• No more ordering meal selections in advance.
• Payment process is simplified, no need to choose in advance the
days on which you will buy.
• One check to BRPS-Food Service can last the month, semester,
or even the student's entire Black River career.
How do I put meal money into student accounts?
School lunch still costs $2.25 and school breakfast is $1.25. Just
determine how many meals you want to pay for in advance and
then turn in a check payable to BRPS-Food Service to the main
office (or by mail). We credidt money based on student names.
The memo of your check should include the student name or names
whose account or accounts should be credited. You can pay for multiple
students with one check, but be sure to specify how much for each child's
account next to the names in the check memo (or attach a note with a information).
How do I view my child's food service account?
We have set up an individual food service account for each student. You may check your child's account balance at any time by loggin on to your Parent Portal account. If you do not yet hav ea Parent Portal account, please go to our Forms page and print off the Infinite Campus enrollment form, fill it in an bring it to the office. (A Parent Portal account is not necessary to put money into and use your child's food service account, but it is a convenience).
How will the account system operate in the breakfast and lunch lines?
Each student has been assigned a 4-digit food service account PIN. You don't need to know the PIN to put money in your child's account right away. For K-5 students, teachers will distribute cards with PINs on the first day of school. For 6-12 students, the PIN is mailed home with class schedules. Every student will enter this PIN into a key pad at the end of the lunch line, a picture displays to verify identity, and the server will record which meal has been chosen via a touch-screen monitor. For paying customers, the meals' full price (or reduced price, if applicable) is charged to the student's food service account.
What happens if there isn't money on account?
First, no money on account is ever necessary for a student that qualifies for free lunch/breakfast. For other paying students, the meals program is a pay-in-advance program, not a credit program, but we will never let a child go without a meal. We hope that most parents will be able to monitor their child's balance using the Parent Portal, but we will periodically mail home a statement. When your child purchases a meal that puts his or her account balance below $5.00, the server will provide a gentle reminder. If it falls below $0.00 and the student forgets to bring a lunch from home, the child will receive a meal, but not a traditional one. Instead the meal served will be a peanut butter sandwich, fruit/vegetable, and a carton of milk.
