NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR JIM VAN PUTTEN AWARD
The Board of Trustees is seeking nominations of persons within the Black River community who
have demonstrated outstanding volunteer efforts on behalf of the school and its students and
faculty. Recipients of the award must:
• Have positively impacted the entire school community by their efforts
• Have volunteered over a number of years in ways that have significantly contributed to the
success of the school and its programs
• Not be an employee of the school or a current member of the Board of Trustees
Past recipients of the award include:
2002 Dr. Jim van Putten, founding board member and past-President of the Board of Trustees.
Served on the Board for 6 years, prior to retiring from Hope College. Instrumental in the start-up
of the school and in securing and renovating our current Columbia Ave. campus.
2004 Ms. Rebecca Mousseau, BRPS parent who worked on the accreditation efforts with both
the North Central Association and the American Academy for Liberal Education. Also tutored
many BRPS students in math, served as President of the parent organization, assisted in the first
Capital Campaign to renovate the main building.
2006 Mr. Al Olesen, BRPS parent and spouse of faculty member. Served on the facilities committee
for new building and coordinated volunteers to secure donations of carpet, lighting, and
other building materials from the Haworth corporate headquarters. Long time athletic dept volunteer
and resource for faculty with facilities, computer, or other needs.
To nominate someone for this award, please send a letter detailing the nominee's efforts and signed
by at least 2 people to the school office, c/o Jim van Putten Award, or email it to
zellerj@yahoo.com by July 1, 2008. The award will be announced at Convocation in the fall.
