Position to start July 1, 2008
Black River Public School is seeking a dynamic, motivated educational leader
with a collaborative management style and excellent communication skills to
become Head of School.
Black River Public School is a college preparatory charter school serving over 800 students in grades K-12. Chartered in 1996 by Grand Valley University, Black River has become established as a national leader in academic excellence, with student achievement well above state and national averages. The school has a stable and innovative faculty and administration team which work closely to maintain a culture that demands academic excellence and builds respectful collaboration. The successful candidate will be a proven leader that possesses innovative ideas and executive and interpersonal skills to build on this foundation.
The community of Holland is located near the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan, and boasts a vibrant and historic downtown, rich cultural heritage and diversified economic base. Millions of visitors are attracted each year by our festivals, fall foliage and an array of recreational opportunities both summer and winter.
Position Responsibilities Include:
• Administer school’s policies, ensuring feedback loops in place to evaluate and make
improvements.
• Maintain faculty and staff with the competencies and commitment required to prepare
students for college and life.
• Further school’s partnership with community, through service, admissions,
fund-raising and other external campaigns.
• Accountable for developing and maintaining academic programs, facilities, and grounds
which support continued gains in student achievement within budget.
• Enforce school’s methods and beliefs to ensure a safe and respectful culture for all
students, staff, and faculty.
• Model commitment to academic challenges and achievement, independent thinking,
and respect for oneself and others through personal actions.
Qualifications:
• Robust and relevant experience in education, including classroom and
administrative experience
• Advanced degree preferred
• Commitment to the college preparatory mission of Black River Public School
• Experience with strategic planning and budgeting within a not-for-profit organization(s)
• Fundraising experience
