Black River Students at Michigan Youth In Government

Conference awards were presented and bills written by Black River delegates were signed by the conference Youth Governor, Black River senior Sam Lowry.  The bills will now be presented to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. They may be passed to the Michigan legislature for consideration. Black River advisors are Ms. Shannon Witvoet and Marguerite Stephens.

Jonathan Lowry –  Servant Leadership Award,  early conference

Kaylee Vroon - Outstanding Governors Cabinet Member

Christina Fink, Mia Phillips, Genevieve Manderfield, Rebekah Harrelson and Sia Rajgarhia – Model Judiciary Program (MJP) Team finalists

“A bill to require the education of Affirmative Consent in sexual education classes in all public schools of Michigan” by Sierra Lynch

“A bill to mandate full service restaurants in Michigan to prohibit plastic straws unless requested by a customer” by Reilly Shuff

“A bill to change the Michigan legal curfew for young drivers” by Riley Buikema
