Black River Public School is a not-for-profit school chartered by Grand Valley State University. Located in the historic Holland Furnace building near downtown Holland, Black River serves students in grades 1 through 12.  Black River does not discriminate in its pupil admissions policies or practices on the basis of intellectual or athletic ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, status as a handicapped person, or any other basis not permitted by Michigan public schools.

 Distinguishing Characteristics of Black River Include:

A college preparatory liberal arts middle school and high school that employs smaller class size to create an environment thriving on participation,
responsiveness, and experiential learning.

A Montessori-based elementary school that fosters student achievement and responsibility in smaller sized classes and individualized learning plans to enhance advancement.

A school without geographical boundaries; any student, regardless of school district, may attend.

A place for any child to experience the joys of learning.

A school that accommodates individual learning styles.

A public school funded by the State of Michigan and chartered by Grand Valley State University.

An integrated curriculum, demonstrating relationships among fields of study.
